After a long hiatus in comics reading, I decided to get back to comics with the biggest ongoing series from last year: 52. I read the first 38 issues during the last 2 weeks, and I enjoyed it a lot.
The parallel storylines were all interesting, some more than others. The Steel story was my least favorite, probably because it's the one where there hasn't been much payoff yet.
The Booster Gold one is my favorite, since it involves time travel. The identity of Supernova was a fun and satisfying mystery.
I also liked the Question story, not for its plot but for its excellent characterization for both Montoya and Charlie. I am curious to see where it goes.
I also like the Black Adam family story, though it seems to be heading to tragedy, and I hope it's not that predictable. I want to be surprised by it.
The space story line is less interesting to me. I don't know any of the 3 heroes, and I don't like Lobo. The end of #37 seems promising though, and it actually made me want to read Morrison's run on Animal Man.
The art is consistently good. At times it is great. Giffen's layouts obviously are essential to the overall look of this series. The pencilers do an incredible job at drawing the same characters in a recognizable way, so that the difference of style is not too jarring, even though I read these issues back to back.
The covers by JG Jones are amazing. They not only look good, but they tell you about the issue content. So many little details help telling story elements. That makes you stare at the cover and study it for a long time.
Not being an expert of the DCU, I found the backups very informative. Though the History of DCU could have had more in it. Even I knew everything told in that back up.
A great series that served the purpose of introducing the many corners of the DCU to a newbie like me. And the mystery and character development are also of great appeal. Good job for putting this out weekly.

If you haven't read Crisis of Infinite Earths and Infinite Crisis, I encourage you to pick up those two trade paperbacks. They put 52 in great context.
I haven't been consistently impressed with the art inside of 52 but it's gotten better in recent weeks.
I'm all about the Renee Montoya/The Question storyline and, you're right, the Booster Gold storyline has been the most satisfying so far.
While I'm not a fan of the Infinity Inc. portion of the Steel story, I dig that it has re-invented Luthor as incredibly evil.
Good stuff.
I agree on the great portrayal of Luthor. Evil evil evil.
Might I suggest the "Infinite Crisis Companion"? ;)
